HONESTY

One word, seven letters, a forgotten principle.
Honesty is a core family value that ought to have been imbedded in us as kids.
As I stand here finding the right words to help me describe what I feel about honesty, I wonder is it a lost value or dying value that most of us sitting here today will be trying to remember.
Are we honest with ourselves? Are we honest to our friends? Are we honest at all?
As future leaders of tomorrow, is it safe to say that our current leaders have forgotten their core family value, which has in turn made our great nation Nigeria to be classified as one of the most corrupt nations; because we have neglected our core family value we have ceased to be men and women of integrity.
These seven letters that we were taught before we could lie has been forgotten and put after greed and selfishness. Without honesty truth will be lost to all mankind.
An honest man is a loving man, a kind man a human, yes! Honesty makes us human. Honesty is straightforward conduct, it is telling the truth at all times even though we don’t stand to benefit, it is being sincere, truthful, trustworthy, honorable, fair and loyal with integrity. Honesty is being upright and fair and also being honorable in principles, intentions and actions.
That, my fellow corps members is the definition of honesty is any of you have forgotten what it means.
So when next you’re overpaid at the supermarket, will you return it?
When next you’re stuck in traffic and late for your meeting, will you drive against traffic?
When next you partied your night away and simply couldn’t make it the next day for CDS, will you lie and call in sick?

Sooner or later, all of us will be faced with similar situations as these, would we do the right thing?
Just remember the saying that “honesty is the best policy”
